IGOR STEFANOVIĆ, born in 1980, in Belgrade, Serbia. At a very young age, his passion for painting and drawing started advancing into a greater zeal combined with his interest in computers and technology.
Igor was growing up in former Yugoslavia. In early 1990′s, as most socialist countries were crumbling, his country spiraled into a nasty civil war and got torn apart. Tough economic times, followed by out-of-control inflation and lack of basic life necessities, made people disillusioned. Thus, a promising professional future seemed almost impossible. Although the artist comes from an intellectual family, the hardship of his home country made him start building his future rather early.
At the age of 15, while working on his first jobs in Belgrade doing business cards designs and marketing material, he realizes this could become his avocation. Being highly ambitious and consequently self-taught, his greatest drive was immense motivation. During high school, he was making 3d animated commercials, and soon he was working for top companies in Belgrade, including local representatives of Peugeot, Coca-Cola, Citroen, Sony and others.
In parallel, he earns bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Belgrade, where he obtains knowledge related to management and information technology – seeing his future in marketing and advertising. After university he decides to shift toward visual effects and animation fields of the movie industry. He starts making an animated short and he discovers his passion for anatomy, deformations and expressions in digital characters, effectively bringing them to life. His portfolio of
works lands him job as a Character Technical Director at Framestore, London, one of the most successful vfx and animation companies in the world. There, he works on feature animation “The Tale Of Despereaux” for Universal Studios, working on hero characters.
Two years later, he arrives at DreamWorks Animation in Los Angeles. During 2008, over 34,000 artists applied at DreamWorks, of which 200 were hired, including Igor. For the next three years he works on major Hollywood animated movies – “Kung Fu Panda 2″, “Puss In Boots”, “Rise Of The Guardians”, “Turbo”, “Bureau Of Otherwordly Operations”, working on anatomical setups of digital characters.
Over this time his life passion, painting, has been part of his life, mainly as a hobby. With constant advancements in his both painting and character technical director skills, he decides to bring his talent to yet another level and thus enters the world of oil painting. Oil on linen technique becomes the perfect medium to express ideas that have been flourishing over the years.
